UPDATE: 80-year-old pilot killed in paraplane crash

PENNSBORO, W.Va. - UPDATE (7/3/2018 12:00 p.m.):

An 80-year-old pilot was killed when his plane went down Monday evening in Ritchie County, according to Ritchie County Sheriff Deputy J.C. Egan. 

 

Doit Koppler of New Milton was the only person on the paraplane when it crashed about 7:30 p.m. near a landing strip off River Road in Pennsboro, Deputy J.C. Egan said.

 

The FAA and Ritchie County Sheriff's Department are investigating

 


 

UPDATE (7/2/2018 10:39 p.m.):

Officials on scene have confirmed that one person has died from the crash, and that the coroner was summoned to the scene.

Crews are currently on scene with a plane crash in Ritchie County.

According to 911 officials, the call came in shortly before 7:30 for a paraplane that crashed near River Road in Pennsboro.

Crews from the Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department, Ellenboro Volunteer Fire Department, Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department, Ritchie County EMS, West Virginia State Police, Ritchie County Sheriff's Department, and Ritchie County Office of Emergency Service all responded on scene.
