Family pleads for public’s help after brother found in Mon River

News

Police in Clarksburg have received countless leads concerning the death of 29-year-old Mark Lundell after he was found in the Monongahela River in April, a month after he was reported missing. Now police, along with Lundell’s family, are pleading with the public to step forward with viable answers.

“We know this is no accident. we know foul play was involved, but nothing is being done about it. It’s awful to not have answers. it’s awful to not know what happened to him, to go from talking to him every day to not hearing from him at all,” said Lundell’s sister, Crystal Beighley.

So what happened Mark Lundell? It’s a question Beighley along with her sister, Shannon Hartnett, believe Police along with someone in Clarksburg can but have yet to answer.

“I don’t know why anyone would do this to him. I know people know things,” said Beighley.

“We feel they don’t want to listen to us about what kind of person he was and the things that he did and what he would not do, they have their mind made up,” said Hartnett.

According to Lt. Detective Jason Webber with the Clarksburg Police Dept., Lundell’s death is still an open and active investigation and the timeframe for this pending autopsy results is routine.

“We try to provide all the facts to the family members and sometimes it helps with closure and sometimes it doesn’t. The medical examiner’s office determine cause of death, time of death. It’s accurate, so I think what they do with the medical examiner’s office is due diligence,” said Webber.

Webber confirms so far, there are no suspects or sustainable leads in the death investigation but he believes the autopsy results will unlock a key piece of information that will shed new light on the case.

“It’s going to lead us, it could, in a different direction from where we were in our initial investigation,” said Webber.

In the meantime both Beighley and Hartnett  continue their agonizing wait and reflect on the brother they called funny and gentle.

“We may never get answers but all we are asking is that the police and the community to do everything they can to give my family justice, to give Mark justice,” said Hartnett.

Lundell’s family also expressed another concern to 12 News and questioned if Lundell’s death is connected to another unsolved death that happened around the same time earlier this year.

Clarksburg Police told 12 News that at this time, they can’t confirm a connection.
