A former West Virginia University wrestler and Pennsylvania state wrestling champion was shot Sunday in Washington County, Pennsylvania following a domestic violence call.

Logan Macri, 19, is charged with aggravated assault after authorities said he attacked his mother with a sword and a handgun.

WTAE reports officers responded to a 911 call at the home, where they fired on Macri after he ignored commands to drop a gun he was holding, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Macri was on the roster at WVU last fall, but he left in November for unknown reasons.

Macri remains hospitalized after the incident.
