Harrison Co. girl works to spread Christmas cheer to families in need

News

Families needing a little help filling the Christmas stockings this year had a chance to receive some assistance from a local 10-year-old girl.

“Charlotte’s Toy Drive” began seven years ago by Johnson Elementary student Charlotte Kirby. With the help of friends, family and local organizations, Charlotte is able to provide many families in the area with Christmas gifts. Donations included everything from dolls, clothes, games and action figures, and Charlotte said it’s just a small way for her to help the community.

“I felt bad for other kids who didn’t have toys whenever they came back from break and I felt bad that they didn’t get as much stuff as other kids did,” Kirby said.

Charlotte’s mother helps run the toy drive, and said most of the toys were picked up within a few hours. Anything left over will go to local organizations’ toy drives.
