Harrison County Commission is working to find a new location for its probation department.
Due to a recent increase in crime, the department needs more employees in order to keep track of all people in the county on probation and home confinement.
Commissioners say their main goal is to keep everyone safe and allow the probation department to have the space it needs.
Commissioner Patsy Trecost said, “it’s important to us that we are able to keep track of them to prevent anything else from happening.”
While nothing is complete at this time, progress is quickly being made.
“We’re in the process of buying properties and getting a development from an architect that’s going to allow us to then take all administrative out of the courthouse and keep the courthouse for just the courts. it’s going to give us an opportunity then to focus here in the courthouse,” said Trecost
Commissioners hope to have something finalized in the near future.
