Harrison County meeting focuses on teen anxiety, depression and self-harm

The Harrison County Prevention Partnership meeting took place at the Harrison County Family Resource Network office Friday.

The main speakers for this event were the Bridgeport High School Suicide Prevention Club. The club’s goal is to help students with anxiety, depression and self harm. The club refers students to trained professionals through a partnership with the United Summit Center.

“When we look further and scratch beneath the surface we see sometimes there’s a clinical issue, there’s a chemical issue, there’s sadness, there’s anxiety, so our role as responsible professionals and adults in the community is to provide awareness, education and resources geared to youth suicide prevention,” said JoAnne McNemar, of Prevention Partnership.

The goal for this school year is to make students aware of the mental health resources available in the community.
