CLARKSBURG, W.Va.- Frank Loria Field in Clarksburg City Park is going to be getting some new turf. Clarksburg City Council approved consideration of funding for the new turf in its meeting Thursday night.
The City of Clarksburg said turfing the field is a unique opportunity because the project is estimated to cost around $800,000, but a parent of a Salem International University student agreed to help the city with donations of stone work contracting work. Mayor, Cathy Goings says those in kind donations reduce the cost down to $320,000.
“The reason why council backed this project, as you know we want to do projects that enhance the quality of living for our students, and our youth throughout our community. So we think this is a classic example of helping the youth,” said Goings.
Council members said a lot of student athletes as well as local area universities and colleges use the field and the turf will be an added improvement to the area.
