Clarksburg City Council commend local law enforcement in ‘drug house’ arrest

Clarksburg City Council discussed the ‘drug house’ ordinance during its meeting Thursday evening, and how their passage of the ordinance last October aided the police in their arrest on Winding Way.

Council said when they passed the ordinance the community showed concern because they did not understand how it would work. On Thursday, that ordinance was implemented stopping drug activities at the Winding Way residence in the Staley area of Clarksburg. Police were able to use the ‘drug house’ ordinance as their tool in the arrest.

“It is working the way that it was intended to. To eradicate our neighborhood of drug dealers, and illicit drugs, and so on and so forth, so that was the whole purpose behind it. It not only applies to the tenant within the facility but also if its owner occupied, and in this particular case it was both,” said Cathy Goings, Mayor of the City of Clarksburg.

Owners of the Winding Way residence will now have to go before the magistrate in Harrison County. The owners of the property have 30 days to fix the issue as well as magistrate court being step one in a process to eradicate drugs.
