Clarksburg City Council met Thursday evening discussing its police force and new equipment that will be obtained.
Council unanimously voted for the mayor to enter into a contract agreement with the Division of Justice and Community Services to receive a Justice Assistance grant for $18,000, funding a Prevention Resource officer for Robert C. Byrd High School. City council also passes a resolution that will allow the police to apply for an Edward Bryne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant with the Harrison County Commission for $12,699 to help the Community Action team. That grant money would go towards night vision equipment and portable fingerprinting capabilities.
“Anytime they run across a suspicious character, and a lot of times they say they don’t have identification, well they can do the fingerprint right there on the spot and get instant results. So we’re very pleased to partner with the county on that,” said Cathy Goings, Mayor for the City of Clarksburg.
Also, council awarded a bid for the slip on Lowndes Hill and road repairs project to Cove Run Contracting, LLC in the amount of $204,590.
