Clarksburg man accused of killing father appears in court

Harrison

A Clarksburg man accused of killing his father appeared in court Wednesday.

Michael Griffith is accused of shooting and killing his father, Clifford Allen Powers, in June 2017.

According to the investigating officer, Griffith stated that Powers was physically abusive to he and his mother during his childhood and admitted that on the day of the shooting he had intentions of confronting Powers.

An admitted audio recording of a conversation between Griffith and the investigating officer is stated to have Griffith saying he felt relief after the incident.

The defense is still waiting for a complete psychiatric analysis from Dr. William Fremouw. They claim that Griffith not only stated that Powers abused he and his mother, but also killed his mother, which they say speaks to the defendant being incompetent at the time.

Defense attorneys are presently leery of putting Griffith on the stand without Dr. Fremouw’s full report.

A tentative trial date has been set for August 13, though that is subject to change.
