Clarksburg Mission hosted its 15th annual ‘Night of Hope’ Spring Gala at the Bridgeport Conference Center to raise money for the mission on Friday.
The event was a way for the mission to award volunteers and recognize its partner of the year.
At the gala, there were people who told their stories going through the shelter. Mission staff said it houses 95 people a day while providing approximately 200 meals to people in need.
“The numbers that we’re housing have more than quadrupled, and we’ve added the veterans program. We’ve added the parents as teachers program. We’ve expanded our welcome room. The back-pack program was not happening in the county and now it is,” said Chris Mullett, executive director of the Clarksburg Mission.
Mission staff said it takes about $3,500 a day to run the shelter, and without yearly fundraising and donations it would not be able to provide services to the community.
“We have on an annual basis about 3,000 different volunteers and we’re going to recognize some of the best of them tonight to give them awards for that volunteer service. But we always need hands,” said Mullett.
