CLARKSBURG, W.Va. - A ‘Families Belong Together Rally’ was held outside the Clarksburg Federal Building Thursday evening.
This was one of two rallies held in the state Thursday, with the second being at held at the Robert C. Byrd U.S. Courthouse in Charleston. Rally participants delivered a letter to U.S. Attorneys William Powell and Michael Stuart stating that all separated children within their jurisdictions should be reunited with their families and that no child, with or without their parents, should be imprisoned for alleged improper entry.
“We need to make smart decisions. If we have a challenge at the border, which obviously we’ve had for a long time, we have to address immigration issues. But we need to do that in a smart way that is problem solving way,” said Kendra Fershee, a resident of Morgantown.
Participating organizations include the American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia, Our Children Our Future, Mountaineers for Progress, Upshur County Indivisible , and Wood County Indivisible.
