Fort New Salem opened its gates Saturday night and welcomed visitors for an evening of Appalachian tales during its ‘Myth of the Mountain’ tours.
Guest were guided around the fort by candle light, each tour included stops at multiple cabins for unique folklore tales delivered by costumed storytellers. Each tour last approximately an hour with new ones launched every 10 minutes.
“If you lived in Western Virginia in the 1800’s in the evening your would sit around with your family and tell tales, you pass it on from person to person, from generation to generation, and that is what we’re replicating here,” said Dr. Joseph Audia, Board Chairperson of the Fort New Salem Foundation.
Tours are offered every Saturday in July, so if you missed this one there is still one more chance to catch the last ‘Myth of the Mountain’ tour. The last tour will be July 28th starting at 8 p.m.
