Harrison County church to open its doors for homeless population

A Harrison County church is looking for help to protect the homeless during an expected cold snap.

Central Christian Church in Clarksburg will open a safe haven for anyone needing shelter beginning Sunday evening at 6:00.

Several churches have partnered with the Clarksburg Mission and have provided similar safe zones.

The church, which is located on the corner of West Pike Street and Chestnut Street, needs donations of food, toiletries, blankets and pillows.

One volunteer said the last time they provided shelter for the community, more than 35 people came in out of the cold.

“Well, we show a movie, we end up playing games and we just talk.  And, like I say, dinner and breakfast is served, and it’s a time of fellowship,” said Central Christian Church member Pam Iaqunita.

Central Christian Church will have volunteers taking donations, including monetary ones, beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday.  Doors will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. all next week.
