Law enforcement advises drivers to watch speed during holiday travel

Harrison

As we enter the busy holiday weekend, law enforcement says to be cautious on the road ways.

Sheriff Matheny with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department said recent accidents in and around the area are a sign to drivers to travel with caution. During the holidays, whether you are traveling 5 miles down the road to a relative’s house or 5 hours away to visit in-laws, the rules of the road are always the same. Do not drink and drive and watch your speed.

“It is a rule of thumb that after 50 m.p.h., every 10 m.p.h. that you travel over 50 m.p.h. doubles the chance of you being killed if you were in a collision,” said Matheny.

Matheny said they have moving radars in their vehicles to monitor speed and will be enforcing speed limits all over the area.
