A Doddridge County couple is pooling their resources to help out a Harrison County woman battling an extremely rare form of cancer.
Brian and Sherry Heckert are “Cooking for a Cure” Sunday, March 31, in Salem to raise money for Kayleen Myers, a 21 year-old mother of two young boys, who is undergoing chemotherapy. Kayleen was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma last year and medical and living expenses are quickly mounting.
“I got to meet Kayleen for the very first time a week ago from today,” Brian Heckert said. “She was receiving cancer treatments at Ruby, and just a wonderful, wonderful, spirited young lady that’s hanging tough. But she has her tough days, and we’ll get her through the tough ones so the good ones will come.”
The event on begins at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday at the Salem Town Hall. They’ll prepare meals until 7:00 p.m.
The Heckerts will be cooking up 400 pounds of pulled pork and chicken, as well as sides. Each BBQ plate is $12.
Every dollar raised will go directly to help out Kayleen Myers and her family.
The Heckerts say meals can be prepared for dine-in or carry out, and they can deliver a certain amount of meals as well.
They are also taking additional donations at the door.
Kayleen is near the end of her treatments but further treatments have been postponed until she regains her strength.
