Mountaineer Food Bank distributes food boxes to local veterans

Every third Friday of the month, the Veteran’s Hospital in Harrison County partners with Mountaineer Food Bank to distribute food boxes to local veterans.

Friday morning, volunteers started early, giving out over 80 boxes before 10 am. Veterans face no requirements to get a box and each box is filled with non-perishable goods, protein and comes with fresh produce.

Volunteers said helping those who have served is important, especially with the high costs of food.

“We have a lot of veterans that are in need of food because of income and this is an event that we have to thank our veterans for their service and just help out a little bit every month.” said Amber Kovach, homeless program manager with the Veteran’s Hospital.

Another food distribution will happen on April 19 at the VA park in Clarksburg.
