‘National Night Out’ encourages police and community interaction

Harrison

‘National Night Out’ is a police and first responder’s event that is happening throughout the United States.

Tuesday night in Bridgeport law enforcement greeted kids at the city pool. Police hope this event brings the community and police together getting to know the police on a personal level.

“We want them to know we’re here for them. We want them to succeed in life, and part of that is knowing we’re on their side, and we’re looking out for them, and if there are consequences coming their way we’ll deal with that; but that’s not what we want to do, we want them to be successful,” said Jamie Hamrick, Bridgeport Prevention Resource Officer.

Police also said the event sends a message to criminals that illegal activities are not going unnoticed, and police will serve and protect the community.
