New, affordable housing units open in downtown Clarksburg

One area of Clarksburg now has new, affordable housing to offer residents.

The new housing project opened on the corner of Monticello Avenue and Anderson Street. The project was funded through the West Virginia Housing Development Fund, with help from the Mountain Opportunities Corporation. A Monticello Avenue resident donated the land.

The new housing consists of four, one bedroom apartments and have already been rented to residents.

“It revitalizes the neighborhood, along with some of the other activities that are going here. It provides affordable housing in an area that needs it and that is really what we are supposed to do,” said Louis Aragona, executive director of the Clarksburg-Harrison Regional Housing Authority.

Officials said it was the only project of its kind financed in 2015 and cost $575,000.
