North View Elementary welcomes certified therapy dog to school to assist students

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – There’s a new student on campus at North View Elementary School, and his presence is giving students a reason to smile.

“Winston” is a one year-old golden retriever and certified therapy dog, and already he’s proven to be the “big dog on campus.”

Jeanna Williams is the school librarian as well as Winston’s owner and she says the dog has already made a positive impact in improving students’ mental health.

“I hope that it catches on because Harrison County is an area that is struggling,” Williams said. “And if he can benefit these kids here, then dogs can benefit children everywhere.”

Williams says Winston greets students as they come into school every morning and that helps get each school day started off on the right foot, or paw.
