For this week’s stop on our Road Patrol series, we visited a busy a growing section of Bridgeport.
A really large pothole is located off of Interstate 79 Exit 125, the Saltwell Exit, where hundreds are passing by it daily.
Sam Jermont, a driver for Mountain State Auto Auction, said he drives by the large pothole four to five times a day.
Some people hit it and others narrowly miss it.
“If somebody doesn’t know that’s there and they come through there and that light is green, they can tear up their vehicle,” added Jermont.
The busy interchange off the Saltwell Exit is a growing area for Bridgeport. One business owner is hoping the potholes get fixed in time for spring. Richard and Kimberly run the Sip Station, a mobile drink and food truck that parks near the interchange.
Whether you are getting off the exit for food or gas, business owners and those driving the area frequently are worried about what could happen if someone tries to miss the pothole.
“What it is doing besides damaging the vehicle, its also going to cause probably a head on collision because of people trying to avoid it,” said Richard Metcalf.
The Division of Highways said they are working to fix this very large hole and have laid gravel as a temporary fix. The DOH will use a more permanent fix for the hole as soon as hot mix is available.
