Salem University opens new campus fitness center

Salem University dedicated the Harry Hartman Fitness Center Thursday afternoon.

University representatives, alumni, students and friends gathered for a dedication ceremony of a new campus fitness center. The Harry Hartman Fitness Center is named for one of Salem’s most influential leaders of young men and women both in athletics and in academics.

“Its not only named for me, I feel for my brothers that I became associated with in 1959 here. And they’re just as an important part of it as I am that they know what an administration that is interested in the student, athletes, and the facility,” said Harry Hartman, 1963 graduate of Salem University.

Hartman became the chairperson of Physical Education in 1973, and the Athletic Director in 1984 at the university. He has also received numerous honors during his tenure.
