Gun violence has been becoming more apparent, and a local church hosted a speaker to talk about these events and their warning signs.
Phil Chalmers is a police trainer, author and expert on teen violence.
He visited some of the local high schools earlier this week before speaking Saturday at Jewel City Church.
Chalmers spoke for two hours, talking to parents and law enforcement officials about the warning signs of these killings as well as what triggers them.
He listed the multiple reasons why these events happen and says one leads them all.
“Bullying is definitely the number one cause of school shootings by far. People ask me ‘Why do kids commit school shootings?’ They’re bullied. They’re suicidal. They don’t want to live. They’re obsessed with violence,” Chalmers said.
Chalmers is hoping to come back in the fall to speak with a number of the local middle schools.
