Saturday brought crowds from all over to Salem for the several spring events being held within the town.

The third annual Rails-On-Trails Opening Day was held in town at the Salem Depot along with the popular Bicycle Rodeo event.

City Manager of Salem, Ronnie Davis, said this was a free four-hour event put on by the city of Salem, which included a free helmet giveaway to all the kids, a free backpack giveaway and a raffle giving away 20 bicycles to members of the community.

“City of Salem is helping sponsor with the bicycle rodeo and we have 20 bikes to give away to kids, we have 200 backpacks, we’ve got helmets for every kid that comes out is just something to get people out in the community and just enjoy the day,” said Davis.

The Mayor of Salem says this event is a way of kicking off the many upcoming events being held here within the coming months.
