Trial of Lumberport woman accused of murdering her partner to begin Monday

Next week Harrison County jurors will get to consider evidence in the case of a 35-year-old Lumberport woman accused of her longtime partner’s homicide.

Melissa McAtee appeared in Harrison County Court on Wednesday afternoon in front of Harrison Circuit Judge Chris McCarthy for a final pretrial conference. Attorneys representing both sides of the case discussed the witness list and jury selection to prepare for the start of the trial.

McAtee, who has pleaded not guilty, is charged in the January murder of 36-year-old David Cottrill, her partner of 16 years. McAtee is said to have shot Cottrill with a hunting rifle.

The trial will be held the week of March 25, with jury selection beginning Monday morning.
