The United Way is getting ready for its largest fundraiser of the year at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Bridgeport.
The annual “Harrison County Hot Wing Eating Contest” challenges participants to down as many chicken wings as they can in just eight minutes, and the United Way is looking for more competitors.
This year, there will be three different divisions, a men’s, women’s, and car dealership division.
The entry fee is just $15 and contestants are asked to get as many sponsors as possible to give to the United Way.
“Last year we raised over $100,000 for the United Way that one night,” contestant and defending champion Jim Wilson said. “So, the more the merrier we can get out to raise and try to break that record. It’s just a lot of fun, the place is packed and have a lot of folks out there having a really good time.”
The United Way’s director says they’ve reached only 56 percent of its goal and the organization has until the last day of February to come up with the money.
The wing eating contest takes place at 6 p.m. on February 6th.
