WV DHHR confirms 560 new COVID-19 cases, 8 additional deaths on Thursday; Active cases rise to nearly 5,900

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 560 new COVID-19 cases and eight additional deaths in its report on Thursday.

The DHHR announced 394 new cases and three deaths on Wednesday.

The report from the DHHR stated that as of 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, there have been a total of 814,774 (+10,803) laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 26,547 (+560) total cases and 480 (+8) of those cases resulting in deaths.

The DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 91-year-old woman from Wetzel County, an 86-year-old man from Cabell County, an 81-year-old woman from Cabell County, an 89-year-old woman from Mercer County, a 67-year-old man from Mercer County, a 71-year-old woman from Mercer County, an 82-year-old man from Putnam County and a 90-year-old woman from Summers County.

“The loss of more West Virginians weighs heavily on our hearts,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “As West Virginians, we must not tire of preventive measures that ensure the health and safety of our friends, family and neighbors. I urge you to continue wearing your mask, frequent hand washing and social distancing.”

According to the DHHR’s coronavirus dashboard, there are currently 5,892 (+229) active cases and 20,175 (+323) recovered cases in the state.
