Davis Medical Center is working to offer more services to seniors in the area with the creation of a new behavioral health unit.
Patients are already being seen ahead of the January 1 grand opening at Laurel Place within Davis Medical Center. Laurel Place is a new 20-bed center for patients 55 and over with acute psychiatric or behavioral disorders and designed to offer short-term care.
“It puts them in a controlled environment. We can manage medicines, behaviors, teach them. Education is probably the biggest priority for them; educate them on their diagnosis, medications,” said Laurel Place Program Director Cindy Lanham, RN.
The facility serves individuals coming from private residences, assisted living centers and nursing homes. The goal is to offer patients short-term care with the goal of returning them to their home and familiar environment.
Davis Medical Center partnered with Psychiatric Medical Care and Green Oak Behavioral Health in the planning and development of the inpatient unit.
