Harrison County YMCA holds free blood pressure screening for the community

Blood pressure checks are part of maintaining your heart health.

The Harrison County YMCA held a free blood pressure screening Tuesday to encourage people to get checked. As part of the American Heart Association’s programming for February, the YMCA said it wanted to hold an event that allowed the community to come and get checked in a familiar atmosphere.

Nursing students from Alderson Broaddus University took blood pressure screening from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

“We want to work with the community and we want the community to feel comfortable being with us and having free blood pressure for the community just gives them the chance if they have never been up here to see the Y and to be more conscious of high blood pressure,” said Benton Walker, sports and wellness director.

According to the American Heart Association, normal blood pressure is under 120/80.
