According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the most effective way to avoid getting sick from viruses spread by mosquitoes is to prevent mosquito bites.

Mosquitoes bite during the day and night, live indoors and outdoors, and search for warm places as temperatures begin to drop.

Doctors urge individuals to protect themselves with a bug spray containing the active ingredient deet.

Health professionals said that when a mosquito is first hatched it is fine but it picks up diseases later in life.

Beth Bond: “When you are thinking about that, if a mosquito has bitten somebody that even has something like the zika virus then it becomes infected and in turn can bite and spread so you really want to go back to prevention with these.”

Doctors said its important to note for most viruses spread by mosquitoes, no vaccines or medicines are available.
