Monongalia County Emergency Medical Services workers now have the latest technology in life saving equipment.
Mon Health EMS showcased its new extrication equipment Thursday in Morgantown.
The new version will replace the old jaws of life and includes a spreader, a strong arm, a ram and a cutter built for high-strength steel.
“These tools are built specifically for the automobile makers that are incorporating high strength steel in their vehicles to protect their occupants. These tools are actually built and made for that. To be able to crush that steel, cut it and spread it open, and to be able to get the occupants out of the vehicle,” said Daniel Six, Mon Health EMS.
Six said the $40,000 equipment is much lighter and battery operated, making it portable and much faster.
