Officials and residents of Lewis County gathered on the courthouse steps in Weston for a proclamation Monday morning.
The Lewis County Commission declared April to be Child Abuse Awareness Month.
The commission partnered with the Lewis County Family Resource Network to raise a flag at the courthouse to raise awareness of the issue, one the FRN said is more common than many people know.
“The reality is that it’s more common than we’d like to think, and really, child abuse prevention should eb on the mind of every single citizen every day so that we can all help prevent it,” said FRN Director Deanna Palmer.
Representatives from the FRN and Lewis County Sheriff’s Department also read the proclamation during the county commission meeting before raising the flag.
