JANE LEW, W.Va. – A Harrison County man was arrested Thursday after officers found meth in his car when they were called out to check on a suspected shoplifting offense.

William Nicholas Rinehart, 23, of Mt. Clare, has been charged on two counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver (Meth) and Shoplifting 3rd Offense.

According to West Virginia State Police, officers were dispatched to the Jane Lew Dollar General in reference to a suspected shoplifting. When officers arrived, they found Rinehart sitting outside in a black Dodge car.

Rinehart admitted to officers that he had stolen one lighter and some candy after he became impatient while waiting in line. Officers searched the vehicle and found a small bag of a white crystal substance, believed to be meth, near a backpack in his back seat. Inside the backpack, officers found around 100 bags containing a similar looking substance.

Rinehart has been convicted of two prior shoplifting offenses.

He’s currently being held in Central Regional Jail.
