West Virginia Secretary of State Mack Warner was in Lewis County to honor County Clerk Cindy Rowan Friday morning.
Rowan received an award from the National Association of Secretaries of State for her office’s work in voter engagement.
Under her leadership, the Lewis County Clerk’s office has cleaned up its voter rolls and saw the highest voter participation in the state.
The office has since made a point of keeping its records as clear as possible.
“Over the years, we’ve always tried to notify people, send out cards if they haven’t voted in the past four years, we’ve sent out cards to see, to remind them they haven’t voted, you need to come and update your records,” said Rowan.
Rowan said her office and staff will continue to reach out to make their records as current and accurate as possible.
