Lewis County Honor Guard salutes fallen heroes at Stonewall Resort

Lewis

The Lewis County Honor Guard helped community members honor the holiday with a ceremony at Stonewall Resort early Monday morning.

Resort guests gathered on the outdoor patio to greet the guard, including veterans from Vietnam and the World Wars.

A excerpt was read about the lives and legacy of fallen soldiers including the first pilot to receive the Medal of Honor. The national anthem, a prayer for the fallen and an honor guard gun salute made the ceremony complete.

The honor guard participates in multiple events throughout the year to honor their fallen comrades.

“We’re all veterans. And we served our nation, our country, our county and our state, but we’re still serving them by burying the veterans. That’s what we’re doing, giving them their military rights at funerals, which we run 10 counties, 25 funeral homes, and we feel proud of what we do,” said Bill Cayton, commander of Lewis County Honor Guard.

After the ceremony, guard members attended a veteran’s breakfast.
