Officials in one local county said their budget preparations are looking to be more favorable this year.
The Lewis County Commission has been meeting to finalize its funding plan for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
Commissioner Agnes Queen said since last year, the county has been able to cut some positions as they were vacated, making raises for employees a real possibility.
“We brought those salaries down, so that helped with the overall budget, and the fact that the economy is starting to do an uptick, so that also helped as well,” said Queen.
Work is still continuing, and Queen said nothing is final until the budget is passed in a regular commission meeting.
