The Mountaineer Military Museum celebrated its 13th seasonal opening on Saturday in Weston.
It features donated artifacts from military members and their families with the oldest piece dating back to the revolutionary war. the most recent pieces are from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Executive Director Barb McVaney says her husband founded the museum after he lost two close friends in the war.
They were all from the little coal mining community in Harrison county,” said McVaney. “They were all drafted at the same time. the draw sent my husband to Germany and his two friends to Vietnam and by war’s end, my husband is the only one who returned home. He was a pallbearer at his best friend’s funeral and made a graveside promise to not let anyone forget.”
The museum is open on Aaturdays from 10 AM until 4 PM from April through December. For more information visit www.mountaineermilitarymuseum.com/.
