Retreat held in Lewis County to make dementia services better

Stakeholders in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and dementia were gathering in Lewis County for a two-day conference Wednesday afternoon.

The Connecting the DOTS Partnership Retreat discussed how to expand services to those dealing with dementia, especially in rural areas.

Organizers said they want to encourage people in every community to understand how best to support dementia sufferers in the community.

“Every segment of the community needs to understand dementia and how to communicate with people who have dementia, from cashiers at grocery stores to bankers to law enforcement and first responders, everybody in the communty,” said retreat organizer Nancy Cipoletti.

The conference will continue through Thursday afternoon.
