Sexual Assault and Stalking Symposium addresses responders

Lewis

Stonewall Resort hosted the 19th Annual Sexual Assault and Stalking Symposium Wednesday.

The event is organized by the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services.

Almost 300 professionals, including first responders, law enforcement and medical personnel came to learn more about how to best respond to assault cases.

Organizers said changing regulations make information provided at the conference important each year.

“Laws change, policies change, best practices change, so to ensure that everyone who is a first responder is up-to-date in those changes, we try to have as many trainings annually as we can,” said WV FRIS State Coordinator Nancy Hoffman.

Hoffman also wants to foster connections between all officials who respond to sexual assault cases.
