The Arnold Palmer Design Company has created 170 golf courses in the United States. In 2002, one of those opened in West Virginia.
The Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort celebrates its 16th anniversary.
Palmer’s group won the rights to design the course over groups owned by fellow golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.
Sunday, multiple scrambled events were taking place in honor of the anniversary.
The course hasn’t changed much over the 16 years, but that’s for good reason with the views available.
“I personally like number seven, just the view of it. From the lake crossing from six tee, to six green you look up seven fairway up the lake and up that fairway with the trees and the markers and things,” said Randy Hernly, Stonewall Resort Director of Golf.
Aside from that hole, Hernly says the course working around the lake is one of the many reasons it’s as good as it is.
