Crews at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum are hard at work restoring portions of the building for another season.
Asylum staff are working to restore three different areas of the asylum: expanding its museum rooms, renovating bathrooms and restoring the center section of the fourth floor.
Staff said it is important to bring those areas back to life as closely as possible.
“Being able to showcase this area in the way it was originally intended is important for our guest to be able to grasp the sense of how the hospital functioned and what it really looked like. We want them to immerse themselves in the experience,” said Bethany Cutright, office manager at the asylum.
The asylum is open from the spring until shortly after Halloween each year.
