After a season of restoration and renovations, a local landmark is getting ready to open its doors a little early this year.
Crews at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum have been renovating Ward 1 of the historic landmark as part of its efforts to share the building’s history.
They said there will even be something new for regular visitors to the asylum.
“More patient areas that you’ll be able to see, what the patient rooms would have actually looked like. Also, we’ve added a lot of displays on the actual tours themselves, so you’ll be able to visualize it a little bit easier than just using your imagination,” said Operations Manager Rebecca Jordan Gleason.
The asylum usually opens on Easter weekend, but this year is throwing its doors open a few weeks early.
Opening day is set for March 30.
