LGBTQ Pride Party headed to North Central West Virginia

News

Pride festivals are held all across the county celebrating LGBTQ culture.

In the past, Charleston has successfully held pride festivals but for the first time ever, pride is headed to North Central West Virginia.

“Specifically in Morgantown, we are looking to elevate a community that is not well spoken for and we are looking to advocate for a group of people who have historically had a hard time in Appalachia,” said Alex Miller with Morgantown Pride.

Morgantown Pride, will hold a block party on Arch Street on April 13, from 2 pm to 6pm and will not only celebrate the LGBTQ community, the block party will focus on some serious secondary issues including sexual health.

“If we educate one person an d prevent them from making a mistake, we’ve done our job,” said Miller.

Morgantown Pride will be the first large scale pride event in North Central West Virginia, an indication that the traditionally conservative mountain state is taking the steps to become more inclusive.

“We haven’t received any pushback yet but as we grow larger, that might happen but so far the community has been supportive and surrounding communities as well,” said Miller.
