Doddridge County High School Students spent the day spreading holiday cheer to senior citizens in Harrison County on Monday.
Students arrived at Genesis Healthcare in Salem for a Christmas party where they decorated cookies and little Christmas trees, and made special personalized stockings for each resident. Some of the students even became beauticians, as they styled the hair for some lucky residents.
Organizers said the event not only gives students quality time with senior citizens, but also teaches them about possible career opportunities.
“For kids to see this population, and to see that they still have some life left in them, and it’s important to provide them a wonderful experience at Christmas and during all of the year. So we are so grateful to these kids, and hopefully we’ve ignited a passion in some of them to pursue a career in healthcare,” said Amanda Scott, the Marketing and Admissions Director for Genesis Healthcare in Salem.
Some of the students even brought their pets to the party for residents to enjoy.
