The city has been purchasing and cleaning dilapidated structures throughout the city in order to beautify the community. Tuesday night, the city laid the foundation to move forward with construction of new East Side Fire Station.
The current station, which sits next to council chambers on Quincy Street in Fairmont is nearly a century old and creates hazards for fireman and personnel.
City manger Gomez said, “The current location is older, so the new one is just a modern and more attractive one. The goal will be to design a facility and the exterior to match the neighborhood appearance around there.”
The council is reviewing property located at Vermont and Morgantown Avenue. The goal is to start construction this year and hopefully to have the site built by the end of 2018.
