Judge elect Steven L. Shaffer was sworn into office in the eighteenth judicial circuit in Preston County Friday.

Shaffer was elected to fill the remainder of the term of Judge Laurence Miller, who retired last year but has continued working as a senior judge. Shaffer is a graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law, and has worked with the Preston County Prosecutor’s office before entering into private practice.

“During the campaign I said that our forefathers set forth the constitution. And in article one, article two, and article three of the constitution it sets forth the three branches of government, and we have to have an equal playing field. The courtroom is the only place that all people are truly equal,” said Judge Shaffer.

He also said he was speechless and honored and loves the people of Preston County. Judge Shaffer’s first day will be May 29.
