Main Street Morgantown and the City of Morgantown have collaborated to introduce the Façade Program to downtown businesses.
More then $20,000.00 has been provided for the program.
The program will function as a forgivable 50/50 loan, at a maximum of $10,000, over a five-year span.
Business owners must apply for the loan through Main Street Morgantown and express a need for
improvements to the front of their building.
Businesses are required to be within the district and members of Main Street Morgantown.
“We’re hoping that if one business rehabs their building and then the neighbor sees it, and they’re like ‘Oh look what they have done, and how nice it is, so why don’t we do something now.’ We all know that happens in neighborhoods, so we are hoping that it will happen because our downtown is a neighborhood,” said Barbara Watkins,
The City of Morgantown was also granted the AARP community challenge grant, which is worth $7,000.00. This will be used to place nine benches along High Street.
Four local businesses have already inquired about updating storefronts.
