Friends of the Cheat River Watershed discuss waterway topics

Friends of the Cheat hosted a meeting Wednesday at Morgantown brewing company to discuss the state of the Cheat River Watershed.

A vast array of topics were covered to those in attendance, they spoke about water quality and restoration processes, fisheries, source water protection, and outdoor recreation. Friend of the Cheat also spoke about hosting more outreach and education events.

“The Cheat River is reborn. It was one of the most polluted rivers in America, and through a coalition of stakeholders of industry, ourselves (Friend of Cheat), universities, and the government we kind of bonded together and created a river of promise to kind of revive and bring back this river from its troubles past from coal mining,” said Owen Mulkeen, Associate Director of Friends of the Cheat.

Attendees had the chance to learn about how the group is working to further its mission the restore, preserve, and promote the Cheat River Watershed.
