A last-minute fundraising event produced a nice check for a local hospital.

The owner of Infinity Studios Events and Rentals in Bridgeport, Carmela Irwin, said that while she was preparing for a wedding expo, she found out there was a need at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. Irwin then quickly organized a gala and held it at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place last month.

On Thursday, Irwin presented a check to the hospital for nearly $2,000.00.

“You know I just think that it shows that we are a tight-knit community and the people do come out to support events and that they do come out to support our future and our hospitals, if our child gets sick then that’s where they go so I think it’s important to support them,” Irwin said.

Irwin said she plans to hold another fundraiser for the hospital and hopes to make it an annual event.
