Monongalia and Preston

On Monday morning, a representative from “Citynet” attended the Preston County Commission meeting to discuss internet services throughout the area.

Citynet is a fiber based broadband provider in the north central part of the state.

This company is looking to introduce a wireless internet solution that works well in rural markets.

The company is currently working on a pilot project with a local company named Prodigy, to reach the rural areas.

“We’ve been doing a test for about a year now. Now we’re just trying to figure out the economics to figure out a model of how, what areas we can get to first and what the cost is going to be. And then hopefully sometime maybe withing the next six to nine months actually have a service that we can announce and offer to those rural areas,” said Jim Martin, President and CEO of Citynet.

The product offered will meet the federal requirement of 25 megabites per second.
